What is a dental implant, how is it placed and how long does it last?
Dental implants are one of the current treatment options for replacing missing teeth. An implant is a titanium screw placed in the jawbone.
Stages of Implant Treatment
- Diagnosis and planning (digital imaging)
- Surgery (placing the implant)
- Osseointegration — the implant fusing with the bone (3–6 months)
- Fabricating the prosthesis
With proper care, implants can last for many years. The outcome depends on individual factors such as general health, bone structure and oral hygiene.
